Approach

Approach
Every space tells a story. Good architecture starts with a clear understanding of where you are and where you are heading.  -  In addition to collecting and identifying client's current needs and future needs, clients are asked, "How do you wish to be perceived? " One's story, told through Architecture, uses images that are commonly understood based on mutual human experiences. These images have over time become patterns most people understand. These patterns "the vocabulary of architecture" become a fundamental tool used to shape how people experience spaces. Another tool is to create a design statement. Whether designing a restaurant or a factory, each project needs a design statement to unify the project. This design statement is a framework for every subsequent design decision.
Understanding Where You Are.All projects exist in a physical world, one affected by the limitations of legal restrictions, physical site conditions and program needs. All of these design conditions must be identified and organized before any design begins. When the project is designed using these parameters, the project integrates successfully into its environment, and provides a solid relationship between the client's current and future space needs.
Understanding Where You Are Headed. Where you are heading is about telling your story thereby directing your future.  Your story can answer unvoiced questions, such as, are you a quality company, are you high tech and growing or are you well established and a pillar of the community.  A story will be told and it needs to be yours.
The Ultimate Goal.  The ultimate goal is for users to experience the spaces created in a meaningful way, not simply to use them. Every design decision has purpose and communicates something. Consistency in the design imparts clarity of message and by using "the vocabulary of architecture," your message is understood.
I have chronicled a number of past projects that characterize my working philosophy. Simply select one of the "Project" tabs above. I hope you enjoy browsing this collection.
